Milan’s Shantak was held at his family home in Palmerston North on a bright, beaming hot day. The ceremony took place on the backyard deck, surrounded by the garden, with the pooja led by a Brahman who had travelled from Wellington. Family and guests came together from Palmerston North, Wellington, and Auckland, making it feel like a really special start to the wedding celebrations.

Later that day, Milan’s Mosaru was held at Queen Elizabeth College Hall in Palmerston North. Before everyone entered the hall, the family started with garba outside, which brought so much energy and atmosphere to the evening. Once inside, the ceremony continued with Milan’s family bringing gifts for the wedding, including outfits for family members to wear on the wedding day.

One of the most impressive parts of the Mosaru was how the aunties held the gifts on their heads for over an hour while the rituals took place, with family gathered around celebrating the tradition. Guests came forward to congratulate the family and offer their own gifts, before the evening finished with dinner. It was a full day of tradition, family, colour, and celebration, and a beautiful part of Milan’s wedding journey to photograph.
